Costs for psychotherapy

Private insurance

The remuneration is linked to the GOP (Gebührenordnung für Psychotherapeuten) standard. The costs for therapy of a diagnosed mental health problem are usually covered by german private insurance companies. Some insurance companies demand a detailed report after the first five sessions for the assumption of costs. The number of sessions covered by insurance vary a great deal. You should contact your health insurance before engaging in any therapy and clarify to which extent the company is willing to pay.

Self-pay patients

As self-pay patient no formalities are needed. The remuneration is linked to the GOP (Gebührenordnung für Psychotherapeuten) standard which applies also to private patients. Currently the fee for one therapy session (50min) in a foreign language is set to € 153,00.

Public health care patients

Your public health care is bound to finance you a psychotherapeutic treatment in private practice in case you cannot find a public health insurance licensed therapist promptly (within three months). For this purpose a great deal of bureaucracy is needed. Since April 2017 therapists with a public health license are compelled to have two sessions per week for patients with mental health crises. The general association of public health insurances (KV = Kassenärztliche Vereinigung) can help you to get an appointment, phone: 030 - 31 003 383. Further steps can be discussed within the crises session.

Costs for Counseling / Coaching

The price for coaching is also linked to the GOP (Gebührenordnung für Psychotherapeuten) standard and currently is set to € 153,00 for one therapy session (50min) in a foreign language. In most cases the costs for this kind of service the client bears all the costs himself/herself. In exceptional cases the company might pay part of the remuneration.
